In the early 20th century, sword production experienced a new upswing. Japan, now open to the modern world, began to rearm. This time, however, production was mechanized and carried out in factories. The modern sword became a uniform accessory, modeled after those used by Western armies. The sets were modeled after the golden age of swords in the 12th and 13th centuries.
